TOGETHER, WE CAN MOVE PHILADELPHIA FORWARD
Cleaning our own house
For too long, too many of our city officials have worked harder to help themselves than to serve their constituents. Bill will fight to put an end to the pay to play politics that threatens our progress. Bill will push for several commonsense reforms: require people who seek to influence city government to register as lobbyists, state who they represent, the money they are paid, and then publish this list; ban most no-bid contracts, unless there are extraordinary circumstances; publish a list of all businesses or entities that receive city contracts; and ensure that the city hiring process is based on merit.
At the same time, Bill will work to make City Government more accessible to the people it serves. This is not just about adopting a customer service mind set; it is also about giving citizens the tools they need to be more active. All government meetings and records should be available to the public and posted on-line. Also, our City Government should prominently post notices of all meetings on www.phila.gov. If City Council is to represent all Philadelphia neighborhoods, then more meetings should be held within our neighborhoods. |
